His Excellency Dr Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil & Gas, Sultanate of Oman spoke about the current state of the oil market and how heavy oil is playing an important part in Oman’s energy mix.
He said “Heavy oil plays a very important role within our hydrocarbon mix. Oman has maturing fields and light oil and gas have been explored and produced. Over two decades ago, we turned to explore our unconventional resources. Oman has five active heavy oil fields and has achieved remarkable success with its enhanced oil recovery (EOR) programmes.”
Dr Ali Al Gheithy, Petroleum Engineering Function Director at Petroleum Development Oman and Chairman of World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition 2018 spoke about the important role heavy oil plays in Oman.
He stated “Heavy oil resources are significantly large over the world- for Oman they form about 40 per cent of the resource base. For technological and economic reasons, they remain less exploited over the years. However, as the easy oil is depleting, and demand continues to grow, we can only fill the gap with heavy oil. So, heavy oil will play a bigger role in the future to cover this widening gap between supply and demand”.
The event offers heavy oil professionals, an unparalleled opportunity for knowledge exchange through a three-day technical conference on topics from upstream, midstream, and downstream heavy oil operations, and heavy oil research & technology.
