Galfar receives certificate of appreciation

Galfar Engineering and Contracting has received a certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications for its “outstanding and effective contribution to the completion of the Al Batinah Expressway project (packages one and three).”

Over the years, Galfar has demonstrated its capability to undertake challenging projects and has contributed to the development of the country by building roads across its length and breadth. The company has the competence, experience and resources to carry out large projects through rough and inhabitable terrains.

The certificate of thanks and appreciation from Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, said, “This is a recognition from the Ministry of Transport and Communications to Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company for their outstanding and effective contribution to the completion of the Al Batinah Expressway Project . Wishing them continued prosperity and success.”

The 270km Al Batinah Expressway, which was opened to traffic recently, is one of the largest road projects ever undertaken in the Sultanate.

The Expressway begins at the culmination of the Muscat Highway in Halban and ends at Khatmat Milaha in the wilayat of Shinas in the Governorate of North Al Batinah. The four-lane Expressway is built according to the highest international standards and technical specifications. Each lane has three metres of external asphalt shoulders, two metres of internal width, 23 interchanges, 17 overhead bridges and 12 ground passes for vehicles.

The road reduces the distance to governorates such as Al Buraimi and Dhahirah and is a vital connection to the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries. It connects three governorates - Muscat, North and South Al Batinah - through several wilayats such as Barka, Nakhal, Al Mussanah, Wadi Al Ma’awil, Al Awabi, A’Rustaq, A’Suwaiq, Al Khabourah, Sohar, Liwa, and Shinas.

A spokesperson for Galfar said, “We are delighted to receive this certificate of appreciation from the Ministry of Transport and Communications. As a company, we are grateful for the trust they have bestowed in us. We are proud to have played a part in the completion of an expressway road that will contribute to the economic, commercial and tourism development of the country. Our specialised team is competent enough to take on any kind of road works at any place and has undertaken many challenging jobs in the most difficult terrains.”

Established in 1972, Galfar has grown into one of the largest construction companies in the Middle East with a turnover that crossed $1 billion a few years ago. Started in 1989, its Roads and Bridges Unit has built more than 3,000 kilometres of roads in Oman.
