Oxy Oman Secures 15-Year Extension for Block 53 Operations

Oxy Oman, a subsidiary of the U.S. -based Occidental Petroleum, has signed a 15-year extension to its Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) for onshore Block 53, home to the Mukhaizna field—the largest oil-producing field in Oman. The agreement includes plans for advanced drilling and enhanced oil recovery techniques, with an expected increase of 800 million barrels in recoverable oil.

As part of the extension, Oxy will deploy artificial intelligence (AI) to refine steam flood strategies and optimize hydrocarbon recovery. The move strengthens Oxy’s long-term commitment to Oman, where the company operates over 3,500 wells and also has key assets in Blocks 9, 27, and 62. Read More

Petronas, Eni to Launch Southeast Asia Gas Venture by End-2025

Petronas and Italy’s Eni have announced plans to form a 50:50 joint venture focused on gas developments in Indonesia and Malaysia, targeting a production of 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The final agreement is expected by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

The new entity will focus on Indonesia’s Kutai Basin—home to Eni’s Gendalo-Gandang hubs—and aims to operate as a self-financed company delivering dividends to both partners. The collaboration is part of Eni’s “satellite” strategy and reflects growing regional energy integration. Read More
