Infra Oman 2016 opens at OCEC

Infra Oman 2016, the six edition of international trade event for infrastructure and industrial projects, opened on Monday in the process also marking the opening of the new Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OEC). Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, inaugurated the formal inauguration of the exhibition. The three-day event is organised by Al Nimr Expo and supported by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources and the Muscat Municipality.

With work on the second phase of the project including hotels, underway, authorities expect OCEC with its excellent infrastructure to offer a major boost to inbound business tourism in Oman as a hub for MICE events in the region.
“Facilities here are excellent, especially with the parking slots. We hope to see more recreational and refreshment facilities for visitors on the sidelines of exhibitions,” said an exhibitor from Spain.

“I have represented my company before for exhibitions but this certainly a new chapter has been opened in the history of Oman tourism,” said an exhibition executive of an Oman based infra company.
Infra Oman has been defining the industry’s development for the last five years. It is considered as the annual meeting place for industry leaders, suppliers and buyers in the Sultanate of Oman. Infra Oman has proved to be an ideal starting point not only for the local companies, but also for foreign entities that are more determined to be part of Oman’s growing market.

Trevor McCartney, General Manager, OCEC, said: “The construction industry is Oman’s largest sector after oil, and plays a key role in boosting economic development. In recent years, the government has made significant investment in infrastructure —airports, roads, ports, industrial estates, free zones and technology parks. This powerful combination of factors makes Infra Oman an incredibly important event for the country.”

The exhibition is also supported by Austrian Trade Commission, German Industry and Commerce Office (AHK), German Near and Middle East Association (NUMOV), Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Iran International Exhibitions Co, Trade Promotion Organisation of Iran (TPO), Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (IROMCC), Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), Spanish Economic and Trade Office, Trade Promotion Agency of Andalucia (Extenda), Middle East Association, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Concrete Sawing and Drilling Association (CSDA), Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and ASTM International.

Infra Oman features over 200 local and international exhibitors from countries like Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Libya, South Korea, Turkey, UAE and The United Kingdom. Infra Oman will also include country pavilions from India, Iran, Italy and the United Kingdom. The exhibition timings of Infra Oman is 10am to 8pm.
