ZAG, PDO sign MoU to train youths

MUSCAT: In line with the national objective of offering more employment opportunities for young Omanis, and to make a meaningful contribution towards the overall economic growth within the Sultanate, The Zubair Automotive Group (ZAG), recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) for the training of nearly 100 young Omanis at the National Automotive Higher Institute (NAHI), after which they will be offered full-time employment at ZAG companies across the country.

The MoU signing forms part of a larger initiative between PDO and six automotive group companies to support the training of 400 young Omanis to work in the automotive industry over the course of the next two years. The signing ceremony took place at Oil and Gas Exhibition on October 27, 2016. The MoU between PDO and ZAG was signed by Raoul Restucci, Managing Director of PDO, and Salam al Kindi, Group HR Head of ZAG. As part of its contribution to the initiative, ZAG will pay OMR 150 as a monthly stipend for each trainee until they complete their respective training programmes; following which, they will be guaranteed full-time jobs into various ZAG companies across the country.

Commenting on the initiative, Salam al Kindi said, “We at ZAG put development of the national work force as one of our top priorities. We consider this a cornerstone of our human resources development programme. As a result we are amongst the first companies in the automotive sector to have started such training programmes and have even been heavily involved with NAHI in their activities relating to this particular initiative, including discussing the curriculum, setting the criteria, sourcing, screening, interviewing and shortlisting candidates.”
