The opening ceremony was sponsored by Shaikh Ali Jarrah Sabah al Sabah, Deputy Minister of the Emiri Diwan Affairs, assigned by Shaikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jabir al Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait, in the presence of Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhoyani, Chairman of NRAA.
Sheikh Ali Jarrah Sabah al Sabah said in his speech at the opening ceremony that the adoption of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature and the activities of this conference and its accompanying activities and hosting it on the land of Kuwait stem from the belief in the importance of clarifying the historical facts because it is a never stopping mental act, based on the fact that many historical events require further investigation and study the time progresses due to the passion of man with science and its attachment to truth.
Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al-Dhoyani, Chairman of NRAA said in his speech that the conference was supported by the royal blessing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in Kuwait, as a result of the friendly relations and communication that link the Sultanate of Oman with its brothers and friends.
During the opening ceremony, a documentary about the role of NRAA and a film about Omani-Kuwaiti relations were screened. On the sidelines of the conference, a documentary exhibition was opened.
It included 300 documents and pictures of the historical status of Oman and its relations with the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Gulf states.
