Energy, Water Expo and Conference from April 30 to May 2

The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (Diam) in association with Omanexpo on Sunday announced that the 2018 edition of Oman Energy and Water Exhibition and Conference will be held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 30 to May 2.

Themed ‘Intelligent Management of Energy and Water Systems’, the conference will reflect the ambitious vision set by Diam, which is providing high-quality drinking water and energy services to all residents in Oman.

Dr Ali Hamad al Ghafri, chairman’s assistant for International Relations and Conferences, Diam spoke to the media at Crowne Plaza Muscat about the event.

He said the conference and exhibition will be inaugurated at 9am on April 30 by H H Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tariq al Said, assistant secretary general for Communications of the The Research Council.

Dr Ghafri also pointed out that this year, the conference will highlight the most important investment opportunities for government and private establishments working in the field of electricity and water sectors in Oman.

It will cover several topics such as energy and water strategies; addressing the programmes and plans for strengthening the infrastructure of the electricity, water and sewage sectors in Oman; the future of energy in Oman and the strategies of production efficiency, uses and investment opportunities available, especially renewable energy.

The topics also include sustainable water management in Oman, policies, and decisions related thereto, and programmes of production efficiency, planning, operation and maintenance in the fields of electricity and water through the showcasing of strategic projects in the field of water transport; presenting the latest systems in the areas of efficiency of operation and intelligent management; and highlighting the latest developments in policies and strategies in the energy and water sectors; Oman’s plans to take advantage of renewable energy sources and offer opportunities to exploit waste in energy production, water networks and pipelines; ways and means to rationalise energy and water consumption in the sultanate, as well as wastewater and treatment methods.

Dr Ghafri emphasised that the conference and its accompanying exhibition is an appropriate opportunity for those interested in these sectors and is an ideal platform for the international exchange of experiences, studies and inventions in the related fields and aims to enhance efforts to consolidate these sectors.

Eng Ahmed al Subhi, CEO, ACWA Power and chairman of the technical committee said, “Diam has formed a specialised technical committee from all the governmental and private sectors. The authorities include Diam, Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, Sultan Qaboos University, The Research Council and Oman Water Society.”

Representing the government companies are Nama Group and Haya Water; while ACWA Power, PDO, Flown Modern Enterprises and Siemens represent the private sector.

More than 50 local and international speakers, academics and experts in the fields of energy, water, and wastewater will be participating, and 400 delegates are expected to attend the conference. Apart from the conference, there will workshops and technical sessions.

Eng Subhi added that the conference will focus on renewable energy technologies in Oman and presented a number of successful experiences in benefiting from the new technologies in this field such as the PDO experiment to produce electricity from solar energy, as well as the experience of Diam with the Rural Areas Electricity Company to launch the wind energy production project.

More than 150 local and international companies from the sultanate, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Iran, India, and South Korea will participate in the event.
