Duqm SEZ-led delegation visits Japanese Smart City

An Omani delegation, headed by Yahya bin Saeed al Jabri – Chairman of the Special Economic Zone Authority in Duqm (SEZAD) – visited Japan's Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City yesterday, September 11, 2018, to study Japan's expertise in the development of smart cities. The visit is part of the 'Invest in Duqm' road-show being undertaken by the SEZ Authority in cooperation with the Embassy of the Sultanate in Tokyo. The promotion, which covers the cities of Tokyo and Osaka, is also supported the Omani Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa), Oman Oil Company, Port of Duqm and Oman Dry-Dock Company.

SEZAD has ambitious plans to transform Duqm into a Smart City. To this end, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed last July with South Korea's Ministry of Land and Transport aimed at studying the feasibility of establishing a Smart City in the SEZ. “Kashiwa-no-ha is illustrative of Japan's Smart Cities built on a new vision for futuristic cities that combine the use of modern technologies while safeguarding the environment during the design of its various components and features. Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City features a residential zone, hotel, two universities and a large shopping centre, with multiple areas for leisure, thriving small business startups,” said SEZAD in a statement.
