The National Glass Recycling Company will be established in Sohar Industrial Estate, and is promoted by Hilal bin Hamad al Hasani, CEO of Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and chairman of Shumookh Investment and Services and Ramesh Mani, glass industry leader in the GCC. Hasani and Mani, who is also the CEO and managing investor partner of the new company, were present at Glasstec in Düsseldorf to unveil the project before a gathering of industry leaders.
According to the promoters, the National Glass Recycling Company will be the first state-of-art and fully automated glass recycling plant with a capacity of 650 tonnes per day within the GCC. “The glass recycling plant is specifically designed to meet the needs of varied glass manufacturers within the GCC region in terms of specifications, volumes and pricing,” the company said.
The plant will use the Glass Recycling Technology, an exclusive and patented technology from the UAE-based Glass-Scan Technologies. “The Dubai based company has the rights, the proprietary know-how and strategic industry partners to support the implementation of the legal frame, support the introduction of glass recycling to the public, arrange and operate waste glass collection, build and operate a recycling glass plant and control and manage all relevant data,” the company stated.
The equipment is manufactured and supplied by Binder+Co from Austria, that specialises in recycling equipment. The company has confirmed long-term import agreements for the broken glass, raw materials and export sales agreements with glass manufacturers, ensuring pre-bookings of the capacities well in advance.
