BP Oman, MEDRC conclude fourth cycle of Tahlya programme

In partnership with BP Oman, MEDRC concluded the Tahlya IV programme with a graduation ceremony held under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs at the Ministry ‏of Foreign Affairs.

The Tahlya IV programme is a vocational training programme that targets building the capacity of young Omanis by equipping them with the necessary skill set to advance in the desalination sector in Oman. 51 young Omani job seekers graduated from the programme this cycle. The training included two levels for Omani with 19 supervisors and 32 operators graduating from the programme.

Shamsa Al-Rawahiya, BP Oman social investment manager, commented: “Since we commenced our partnership with MEDRC six years ago, the Tahlya programme successfully trained 262 young Omani jobseekers of which 59 per cent are currently employed. This programme reflects our aspirations in contributing to the Omanisation of the nation’s water sector and building the capacity of our Omani community in this field. We are delighted to announce that we are continuing our partnership with MEDRC with a new cycle of the Tahlya V programme which will aim to train 76 trainees in 2021.”

Ciarán Ó Cuinn, MEDRC Centre Director, further added, “The partnership between MEDRC and BP Oman has helped empower young Omani jobseekers in the water sector and will continue to do so. I want to commend bp Oman for their ongoing support and leadership. We are so proud of the achievements of our Tahlya graduates who are already leading the way in Oman’s desalination sector.”

By the end of this programme, the Tahlya programmes in total will have trained 338 young Omanis, providing them with the skill set needed to enter the desalination sector and contribute to achieving its in-country value objectives.
