ASYAD Group inaugurates Khazaen Dry Port in Barka

Asyad Group, Oman’s integrated logistics service provider, Wednesday officially inaugurated the Khazaen Dry Port in Khazaen Economic City in Barka.

Khazaen Dry Port, the first integrated land port in the sultanate, is one of Oman Investment Authority’s (OIA) investments in the logistics sector in partnership with the private sector.

The dry port will promote the sultanate’s economic diversification and consolidate the country’s position as a global logistics hub. The port is expected to strengthen the Gulf region’s supply chain system.

Asyad Group said the official opening of the Khazaen Dry Port comes in line with the sultanate’s National Logistics Strategy which is aimed at integrating logistics solutions provided by different entities and strengthen Oman’s position as a logistics centre for the region.

Oman’s Ministry of Economy in a tweet on Wednesday said that the Khazaen Dry Port is a link and logistics centre between Oman and the region. The ministry added that the private sector investment in the dry port project accounts for 60 per cent of the total investment in the project.

The inauguration ceremony was held under the auspices of H E Issa bin Hamad al Azri, Governor of South Batinah, in the presence of H E Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport in the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and a number of their excellencies, officials, representatives of government agencies and private sector companies.

On the occasion of the opening of the port, H E Shamakhi said the commercial operations of Khazaen Dry Port is a new addition to the logistics system in Oman and it will provide many opportunities to enhance the sultanate’s competitiveness at the regional and global levels.

“This port will provide additional advantages and options for the business sector in Oman, which is expected to be positively reflected in raising the country’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking,” he said.

The current size of the Khazaen Dry Port is 100,000sqm. There are future plans to raise the capacity of the port’s logistics area by adding another 150,000sqm during the next five years to keep pace with the expected increase in operations.

The Khazaen Dry Port will serve the needs of shippers as well as logistics service providers. Benefiting from exceptional connectivity with the region, this major component of the Khazaen Economic City serves as a transhipment point and offers customs-bonded services as well as opens up opportunities across the warehousing services value chain.
